What Are Addictions?
Addictions can be anything we feel we MUST have to function, things that control us, our behavior, our Moodβ¦. Things that we feel we cannot live without. Itβs the dependency on anything that we cannot let go of in order to feel good, safe and usually can be harmful to us in a terrible way.
For some, many are addicted To Alcohol, Drugs, Sex, Prescriptions and Medications, Food, Smoking, Work⦠regardless Addictions can become toxic to our well being.
How can Addictions control our Lives?
Think about the effects of addictions. Lets say you decide you want to splurge on some sweets for a bit. A little Ice Cream here and there, chocolate cookies. Pies every week until you start feeling like you need something sweet with every meal; every day. Before you know it, youβre gaining serious weight and youβre having a hard time with the High Fructose Corn Syrup and the Soy Lethiciin. It becomes harder and harder to resist or push back the sugar, the chocolate and all that goes with it.
Letβs say you get some alcohol and you begin to vibe off the sudo and temporary confidence it brings and as you fade back into realityβ¦ you need some moreβ¦ until before you know itβ¦ youβre drinking every day and stocking up. Then drinking becomes a lifestyleβ¦ a bad one. And instead of dealing with reality you take a few more sips until it becomes a problem.
Or letβs say you need some smoke π¨ and you realize you cannot function being soberβ¦ and you go crazy when anxiety starts to kick inβ¦ and your looking for a hook up or a way to get a little so you can feel a little high at least. Or you sink into depression when youβre out of your medication or you need a refill on your prescription and that unrest starts to eat at your peace of mind until frustration and anger creeps in to the point that youβre desperate.
Or worse, youβre addicted to sex and Your thought life becomes corrupted and you defile your own self or open yourself and your heart and mind to impurity and uncleanliness before God; while giving entry to unclean and perverted spirits to enter your heart and body. Before you know it, youβre living with a STD. (And Iβm not talking about a Sexual Transmitted Diseaseβ¦. Iβm talking about a Spiritually Transmitted Demon) β¦Believe That!π― Spirits of Lust Are The Hardest To Leave. Because They Cling to the desires of the body and mind. They entice pleasure to the body to the point that people become slaves to it; causing the addiction to become harder to break.
Believe it or not, many can also be addicted to work to the point that they donβt take enough breaks, experience burn out or worseβ¦ not spend enough time with their families. Enjoying your craft is one thingβ¦ loving what you do is also one thingβ¦ but not balancing your time and energy can lead to health problems, relationship problems and other issues.
Addictions come in many forms. Like playing video games all day. Gambling, etc. Addictions control us when it affects our mood, behavior, attitude and we canβt be our true selves and be in peace without them. Addictions Claim The Lives of Many People, Family Members, Close Friends, Business Partners, And Young People.
How Can God Help Us With Addiction?
Whatβs crazy isβ¦. Addictions Are A Form Of Idolatry. Iβm not talking about a statue or religion. Iβm talking about something we bring into our own lives by choice; that we depend on to make us feel better than the way βGod makes us feelβ. Whatever we are addicted to βmakes us a slave to it.β It is master over us and controls our mood and our life. Usually those addictions are things we can live without.
Overcoming Addictions
The hardest part of being addicted to anything is when we feel temptation, urges, desire and when we experience cravings for the pleasures we are used to feeling in our bodies and we are drawn away from it. Anxiety takes over when those things arenβt present when we need them or we have no control over the desires of our mind and body. We can overcome any addiction forever through the Power of Godβs Word and Willpower. Understanding that we are not slaves to anything and Jesus Died to free us from the power of being a slave and servant to any thing. We overcome addiction by choice, by prayer, by fasting, by developing self control and practicing purity.
Final Thoughts
Addictions can be broken. It starts in the mind. Our lives follow our thoughts. God will send people in our lives to speak Wisdom to help us to understand and get victory over those secret battles. Itβs important to speak into the lives of your loved ones and help them with their addictions. It sometimes can be hard and you can even hit a nerve and cause a reactionβ¦ but remember, wounds from a friend are good. They are better than kisses from an enemy. Keep trying to help them. Keep trying for that family member or friend you have that have been bound for so long, by what has gained control over them through addiction. Whatever it may be. Love helps release addictions. Donβt ever give up on anyone you know struggling with something that they are struggling to overcome. Love and help them no matter what; so that addiction wonβt claim their lives. Pray for them always! β¨ Ask God To Set Them Free For Good!!!!ππ½ Help them find an alternative and never give up on them. For many, you have been likeβ¦ Iβm done helping, because they keep going back..β Thatβs Normal. Those addictionβs are enticed by demons. Those demons that have had control for so long wonβt give them up without a fight. Expect resistance. But if you love themβ¦ you wonβt let them go. Addictions are like them sitting in a house with a fire slowly burning and they are unaware. Through prayer and fasting, we can make the difference in their lives; or allow others to make the difference in our lives. All additions can be broken. In Jesusβs Name! Amen.ππ½
